Mount Pleasant estate to have 6,000 HDB flats, up from 5,000 previously announced
Four Build-to-Order (BTO) ventures are prepared for the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate, which are going to generate around 6,000 brand-new condos upon finish. This is 1,000 more than the 5,000 units formerly revealed for the 33ha site, HDB claims in a Sept 2 press release.
The Mount Pleasant estate remains on the spot of the Old Police Academy (OPA), near the Thomson Flyover off the Pan Island Expressway. The OPA was used as the training institute for the Singapore Police Force (SPF) up until 2005.
This will be the 2nd BTO project to present the white flat layout, after the Crawford Heights BTO project, which released last October. According to HDB, referring to four in 10 flat customers opted for the style at that project.
Six buildings, which HDB says were “recognized as one of the most significant depictions of authorities heritage”, have been saved and will be incorporated into the brand-new estate. Four blocks are going to be repurposed for alternate uses including an area authorities post and SPF Heritage Gallery. One block is going to continue to act as the Senior Law Enforcement Officer’ Mess, while another will be integrated right into future developments. Furthermore, the previous OPA parade square will be kept as public space for community use.
Served by the new Mount Pleasant MRT Stop on the Thomson-East Coast Line, Mount Pleasant will be a car-lite estate and include Transit Priority Corridors with dedicated bus lanes, bigger foot tracks and cycling paths. New roads, including a main road named “Old Police Academy Roadway”, will additionally be built to enhance access. There will additionally be a sheltered pedestrian road that links the various precincts in Mount Pleasant, HDB states.
According to HDB, the increased supply adheres to “additional detailed planning studies” and are going to guide to fulfill strong property demand.
The very first BTO project in the Mount Pleasant estate will be started as section of the October 2025 BTO activity. Labelled Mount Pleasant Crest, it will offer around 1,350 units of two-room flexi to four-room flats. There will even be 270 units of public rental flats.
Lee Sze Teck, leading supervisor of data analytics at Hiuttons Asia, thinks the Mount Pleasant Crest project that will be launched for sale in October will draw solid attention, because of its place close to Mount Pleasant MRT Station and schools like CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School.
HDB states the “white flat” layout will be given at Mount Pleasant Crest. Flat clients can choose the open-concept layout, that provides a contiguous living and bedroom room without separation walls, when they are welcomed to reserve a flat.
Eugene Lim, key executive officer at ERA Singapore, mentions that the white flat style at Mount Pleasant Crest may appeal to more youthful Singaporeans and home owners intending to do extensive renovations. “A white flat typology will certainly give them the option to tailor-make their format to cater to their housing needs, enabling adaptability over the longer term,” he claims.
Mount Pleasant’s distance to Toa Payoh will also factor into demand and prices. “The project may be a Prime BTO as resale flat rates in Toa Payoh are rather high and the older estate has one of the greatest numbers of million-dollar resale condos,” Lee adds. Prime flats are subject to tighter regulations, such as a 10-year minimum occupation duration and an aid clawback.
